TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) Jim McClatchy lost his brother to cancer.

John McClatchy was an avid outdoors-man and fisherman, so when Jim and his family and friends were setting up a memorial fish derby, Camp Rainbow Gold was a logical beneficiary.

“All this money that’s raised to Camp Rainbow Gold goes directly to Idaho kids that are suffering from cancer and it was my brother’s wife and a few of us that just thought this would be an extremely worthy cause,” McClatchy said.

The fishing derby at West Magic Resort charges a fee to entrants. The top seven fish by weight earn cash prizes for the person who catches them. The top three juniors earn prizes as well.

Everything raised more than the prize amounts goes to the camp. In the last seven years, they have raised $25,000 for the nonprofit.

“That’s our goal and mission every year is to be able to continue to do that and do this derby in memory of my brother,” McClatchy said.
