Elizabeth Lizberg, CEO of Camp Rainbow Gold, joined in 2007, when the organization was still a program under the American Cancer Society. Since then, she has led the nonprofit through remarkable growth. With the support of dedicated staff, volunteers, and a committed community, she transformed the organization from offering one camp to five, expanding services to support not only children with cancer but their entire families. In 2014, Elizabeth guided Camp Rainbow Gold to become an independent nonprofit, enabling it to address critical safety and capacity challenges more effectively.
In 2019, Camp Rainbow Gold secured a permanent home by purchasing 172 acres in Fairfield, Idaho, now known as Hidden Paradise. Despite the challenges of COVID-19, the team hosted camps on-site two years ahead of schedule following the remodeling of 14 cabins.
A $16 million capital campaign—with an extraordinary 50% in-kind donation rate— resulted in the construction of 12 new cabins, a health center, an amphitheater, a playground, and a sports court within 18 months. Hidden Paradise has since become Idaho’s only fully accessible medical camp, serving as a vital resource to other nonprofits as well. In the summer of 2024, Camp Rainbow Gold hosted five camps and welcomed eight additional nonprofits to enjoy the facilities.
Elizabeth’s leadership emphasizes teamwork, collaboration, and a shared vision. She attributes the organization’s success to its passionate staff, dedicated volunteers, and supportive community, with the Board of Directors playing a key role in this network.
At the heart of her work is a dedication to creating lasting memories of hope, love, and joy for Idaho’s children fighting cancer and their families. Recognized as an Idaho Business Review CEO of Influence and a Women of the Year nominee, Elizabeth enjoys traveling with her family, with a goal of visiting all 50 states—especially destinations by the ocean.
